1937 Zenith 5S127 Tombstone tube radio

This is a superb example of the American Art Deco era for the late 1930’s. This is seldom seen tube radio model 5S127. It is one of the most distinctive looking radios produced by Zenith. The designer created a very simple wood cabinet, with heavy rounded edges. This most distinctive design resulted in Zenith famous line up for 1937.

The set has been electronically restored and picks up many stations across the dial. The radio has a complete recap electronic restoration - all the electrolytic capacitors were replaced with new production parts. All the paper foil capacitors were replaced as well. The radio has very nice reception with no hum. Station after station can be listened to on AM. The set produces excellent volume and good sound from the front mounted speaker. A new power cord was installed for safety. The radio has the original Zenith wood knobs. The walnut veneered cabinet is beautifully restored. The grille cloth is a reproduction of the original pattern. Every detail was reproduced to keep the original look. . An audio jack is installed so you can play anything you want. An outside antenna is necessary on old tube radios or a long wire. A wire loop was installed in the cabinet as an antenna and works quite well.
