Zenith 15U273 Louie XV Radio from 1938 SOLD!!!
Zenith 15U273 Louie XV Radio from 1938 SOLD!!!
Zenith introduced their models for the 1938 radio season with this model being the top of the line 15 tube radio. Zenith listed this radio for sale at $325. Thats half the price of a new car in 1938. The 15U273 Louis XV is very rare and highly sort after radio in today's collectibles marketplace. Very few are known to exist and the ones that are, have been only seen in collectors’ hands. Here is your chance to add one to your collection. This is one amazing radio that commands a high value. It is a very large radio. Not as big as a Strat, but almost.
The cabinets’ book matched walnut veneer is a beautiful original finish. The finish, while being original, is not without flaws. Sometimes I call it “Character”, little bumps and bruises that happen to it over the years. I would say overall it is an 8 out of 10 on its finish. I think this radio should be left with its original finish. The grille cloth is also original and in very nice shape. The knobs are the original wood Zenith knobs, no reproductions here. The Superheterodyne chassis is a performer and plays full dial scale, loud and clear. The radio has had a complete recap electronic restoration - all the electrolytic caps were replaced with new production parts. All the paper foil capacitors were replaced as well. The dial belts are new for smooth tuning and motor operation. A new green eye tube is installed to brighten up its playing and looks. The radio has very nice reception with no hum. An outside antenna is necessary on old tube radios or a long wire. A new power cord was installed for safety. I installed an audio jack so you can play music directly into the radio.
