Zenith 8S129 "Big Pet" Tombstone Radio for 1937 SOLD!!!

$1,400.00

Zenith sales refers to… RADIOS with the big black dial.

This 8-tube model 8-S-129 is a large table radio referred to by Zenith collectors as the "big" pet. Because the grille resembles the soft eyes of a family pet, something like a dog.

The radio was introduced in the summer of 1936 as part of Zenith's line-up for the 1937 model year. The large tombstone 8-S-129 uses the same chassis as the console model 8-S-154.

The book matched walnut control panel is bordered by striped, fluted corners, and Australian laurel veneer sides. This magnificent tombstone will catch any one’s eye the moment they walk into the room.

The large black dial is in very nice shape. The cabinets’ book matched walnut veneer is beautifully restored with a great lacquer finish and toned lacquer color trim. The grille cloth is a reproduction of the original pattern. The knobs are the original wood Zenith knobs, no reproductions here. The Superheterodyne chassis is a performer and plays full dial scale, loud and clear. The radio has had a complete recap electronic restoration - all the electrolytic caps were replaced with new production parts. All the paper foil capacitors were replaced as well. The dial belt is new for smooth operation and tuning. The radio has very nice reception with no hum. An outside antenna is necessary on old tube radios or a long wire. A new power cord was installed for safety.
